Holiday Shopping

I am not a big fan of Holiday Shopping for several reasons. The first being that I get so annoyed with the crazy ads on tv and in my mailbox. I understand that shopping will help to move our stale economy. I get annoyed with Holiday shoppers because they are rude (10 times more than usual). Parents lose their minds trying to buy that perfect gift that they think will make their children love them. Reality check people, material things cannot fill the void in your hearts, nor will they make your children love you more. Some parents need to realize that children are more interested in spending quality time with them.

I am not saying that buying gifts for one another is a bad thing. I just want people to take a step back and look at the real meaning of Christmas before they go out and spend money on things that can live without. Here is an idea, instead of spending all your money on things, how about you do the following for a change.

  1. If you are going to spend, set a limit on the number of  items that each person on your list gets and how much you are going to spend.
  2. The key is to stick with your spending goal…remember, your child loves you no matter what you get them.
  3. Go volunteer at a soup kitchen and bring some joy into another family’s life.
  4. Go to a nursing home and adopt a grand parent or two.
  5. Go to a children’s hospital and read stories to those needing a friend.
  6. Go volunteer at your children’s school and get to know their teachers better.
  7. Take your children out on nature walks.
  8. Cook meals together, plays games together and really get to know your children and their interests.
  9. Do a family camp out and reconnect with your children if you feel disconnected.
