In Memoriam: Sergeant Jeannette L. Winters

Sgt. Jeannette L. Winters

Sergeant Jeannette L. Winters was from Gary, Indiana and was assigned to the  Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352 (VMGR-352), Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, CA . Sergeant died on January 9th 2002, when the KC-130 Hercules air tanker she was in grazed a peak, caught fire and crashed in a mountain side in southwest Pakistan.  Sergeant was 25 years old when she died and she is survived by her father Matthew Winters Sr, brother Matthew Winters Jr. a step mother Helen Winters, step sister Harriet Clay, a niece and four other siblings whose names I was not able to locate. She was described as fun-loving, determined and thoughtful. Sergeant Winters’ mother died of ovarian cancer in 1994 at the age of 49 and Sergeant winters being the eldest female daughter took over the duties of her mother to help make sure that all her siblings were being taken care of. She played the piano and sang and she was known to always have a smile even when things weren’t going so well for her. I thank you Sergeant Winters for making the ultimate sacrifice. I  pray that you are resting in peace.
