“Use hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”– 1 Peter 4:9-10 (KJV)
“If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?” — James 2:15-16 (KJV)
I chose this scripture tonight because we wanted to remind our children about how they should treat others. Our children are pretty sensitive in that they don’t like to see each other upset. We have been trying to teach about te “golden rule” because they are getting older and that they should be aware of how they treat others. I sometimes worry that their peers might think that they are weak and naive because they are polite. It really bothers me that some children are not being taught to carry themselves with respect. Children need to be taught that people will only treat them with the amount of respect they give themselves. As believers of Christ we try to teach our children that we are expected to carry ourselves with dignity and respect. We also tell them that people will see that they are believers of Christ in the way they carry themselves. God wants us to share his Word with everyone and sometimes we don’t have to say a word to get people to see that we believe in God.
I thank you for stopping by and for reading. I hope that you find something meaningful and helpful during this visit. I was especially proud tonight when one of our neighbors noted that we have well-behaved and polite children while trick of treating. Moments like that help me to remember that people are watching and that it is our responsibility as parents to set a great example for our children. I hope that more parents would take some time to think about how their behavior impacts their children’s. I am not trying to judge but it is sad that I never once heard any of the children in our little group this evening say thank you to those adults giving them candy. It is like those children feel that they had somehow earned it and didn’t have to say thank you. I was glad to see that our children didn’t feel that entitled and that they thanked every homeowner for sharing their candy.
